Student Data Privacy and Protection
Community Leadership Academy / Victory Preparatory Academy (CLA/VPA) cares deeply about the privacy of our students. We are committed to ensuring that their data is protected in every instance, and that we are in compliance with the Colorado Student Data Transparency and Security Act (HB 16-1423) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
CLA/VPA has always protected student data. The new Colorado Student Data Transparency and Security Act is helping to reinforce this protection by focusing on:
- Reinforcing protocol for using software and working with vendors
- Transparency for our community on what student data the Colorado Department of Education and the school collects and how its collected
- Bringing greater awareness of elements to look for on click-through contracts for free online apps

Types of Student Data Collected By CLA/VPA, Beyond What CDE Requires
While the majority of data collected by the school is for serving regulatory requirements from a federal agency or state regulatory agency, some student data may serve operational needs local to the district such as emergency communications with families, facilitating transportation, providing certain services to students, facilitating formative assessments, etc.
Student data is highly regulated by multiple federal and state laws including FERPA, COPPA and HB 16-1423, and is maintained per records retention policies of the school. Within school systems access to this data is defined and restricted by staff role, and system users are required to log-in through secure channels to access such data.
